Korea men's table tennis loses to China to win bronze in team event at Asian Championships

South Korea's men's table tennis team could not overcome the 'Great Wall of China' to claim bronze in the team event at the 2024 Asian Table Tennis Championships.

The South Korean team of Lim Jong-hoon, Ahn Jae-hyun (Korea Exchange) and Oh Jun-sung (Mirae Asset Securities) fell to China 1-3 in the men's team quarterfinals on the fourth day of competition in Astana, Kazakhstan, on Tuesday.

The tournament does not have a third-place playoff, instead awarding bronze medals to both losing semifinalists.

South Korea lost to China in the semifinals for the second consecutive time at last year's Pyeongchang Games to earn the bronze medal.

China will play the winner of the Taiwan-India match for the Asian championship title.

South Korea had gained momentum with a 3-1 victory over Japan, 메이저사이트 the world's second-ranked team, on Aug. 8, but it was not enough against the 'powerhouse' Chinese.

Only Ahn Jae-hyun beat Liang Jingkun 3-0 (11-7 13-11 11-1) in the No. 2 match, while all other players lost their matches with game scores of 0-3 or 1-3.

World No. 1 Wang Chuqin, who is beginning to be recognized as China's new ace, was responsible for two of the wins.

He defeated Oh Jun-sung 3-1 (11-5 10-12 11-3 11-4) in the first match and Ahn Jae-hyun 3-1 (8-11 11-8 11-9 11-6) in the final four.
